Lucien Albrecht (Orschwihr, Alsace)

150 years were needed to make up the domain Albrecht located in the very best Alsace terroirs.
Jean Albrecht graduated in Viticulture and Oenology at the wine university of Beaune. Then he worked alongside his father, gaining the experience and knowledge to carry on this passion of wines, that was with his ancestors’ since 1425. Jean Albrecht is now the ninth generation settled in Orschwihr, leading the domain. Always trying to improve the quality, Jean devotes his time between the vineyards and the cellars.

"Taking over the reigns from a long line of wine-growers, the dynamic Jean Albrecht runs a tight ship on his thirty-odd hectare estate, a considerable size for Alsace. With both cuvées and special selections, he has reduced output, harvests the grapes late and by hand and vinifies them with precision, without excessive residual sugars. In a very wide range without a sour note, the jewel in the crown is the Riesling Pfingstberg, always slowly improving. The 2001 is a wine of great density, but totally closed. It needs five years at least. To pass the time, the estate produces a group of highly enchanting rich Pinot Gris and Gewüztraminers. The impeccable Late Harvests and Selection of Noble Grapes are top of the range and the lower shelf wines are always very smooth. A safe bet."
